Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) leader Prakash Ambedkar on Sunday met the family members of the woman doctor who was found dead last month in Satara district of Maharashtra and demanded an `unbiased` SIT probe on Sunday, reported the PTI.
Ambedkar has called for a fair and transparent investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Speaking to reporters, He urged the SIT to examine all post-mortem reports filed in the past year, particularly those conducted under the supervision of the deceased doctor, to determine the level of professional pressure she may have faced.
“If any pressure is established, the inquiry should be expanded to identify those responsible, regardless of whether they are from the police, medical, political or social spheres,” he said, according to the PTI.
He further demanded a detailed review of the call records of all individuals who had contacted the doctor during the period in question to uncover the true cause behind her death.
The 28-year-old doctor, serving at a government hospital in Satara district of Maharashtra, was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan on October 23.
A note allegedly written on her palm accused police sub-inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping her and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mentally harassing her.
Both have since been arrested, and Badane has been dismissed from service.
The Satara police had said in a statement that Badane was accused of `unethical and indecent and irresponsible behaviour by misusing his position`. His actions were described as unbecoming of a police officer and detrimental to the public trust, it said, according to the PTI.
Ambedkar also urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to fulfil his assurance of providing a government job to a member of the deceased doctor’s family.
“The Chief Minister makes announcements instantly, like ‘instant idli’, but later the information changes. He must verify what the police are reporting,” Ambedkar said, as per the PTI.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the tense atmosphere in Beed district of Maharashtra, Ambedkar warned against attempts by political actors to inflame tensions between the Maratha and Vanjari communities.
“The Governor and the Chief Minister, as the two most responsible figures in the state, must intervene immediately to restore peace and communal harmony,” he added, the news agency reported.
